Just for today

JUST FOR TODAY

See you looking my way but our eyes never meet. I’m trying to find meaning through your tel-e-phone screen. Ahh-haa. What happened to em-pathy? Ahh-haa. Is all sympathy lost in me.

Oh, God
Why do I treat me this way?
Dear God
Will You hear what I have to say?
ahhh-haa
Now I’m on my knees to pray
Ahh-hmm
God if it’s just for today

Nobody sees me. Like I don’t exist. Oh Mama never said there’d be days like this. Ahh-Haa. Living with men-tal ill-ness. Ahh-haa. And they say, I am just sensitive.

Oh, God
Why do I treat me this way?
Dear God
Will You hear what I have to say?
Ahh-haa
Now I’m on my knees to pray
Ahh-hmm
God if it’s just for today

So I sit here in the shadow. Always just off to the side. Trade you my tomorrow’s here for some of your time. Ahh-haa. These long and lonely days. Ahh-haa. God save me if just for today.

Oh, God
Why do I treat me this way?
Dear God
Will You hear what I have to say?

Ahh-haa
On my knees I pray
Ahh-hmm
God if it’s just for today
Thank You God
just for today

  1. I enjoyed thus one a lot. Just curious do you write them and post the same day? Did you just write these?

    1. Hi C.C.
I am so happy that you took the time to read and even more so that you enjoyed it! Thank You so much! So about posting/writing…Some poems I’ll end up spending months in between start and completion, I don’t always share those ones. Others like this one here, just come really fast without much effort in thought on my part. When that happens I usually just spellcheck and post it. I L-O-V-E those moments and try to create time to get it on paper in that moment because it usually don’t resurface again so clear like other thoughts. This one came through like a song with it’s own rhythm. So I have made a habit of recording it out loud as fast I can to that rhythm. That way I can reference back to hear the flow on certain syllables when needed. Hope that answered your question.
      Cheers!
